Nipissing University COVID-19 Update

Nipissing University tracks positive cases of COVID-19 that involve members of its university community present on campus. When made aware by public health authorities, the University will update the number of positive COVID-19 cases on this page. Please note that cases being reported on this page are not necessarily connected with one another. Cases will be considered closed after 14 days. The case count below will be updated daily Monday to Friday.

The Health Unit will provide information about cases associated with an outbreak on their website that include cases off campus. As a result, Nipissing University’s numbers may differ from those reported by public health in relation to the outbreak.

Note: All contact tracing will be handled by the Health Unit. Any individuals who may have been in close contact and may be at risk for infection will be contacted directly.

Nipissing University will provide information about an outbreak on campus:

  • On the News section of our website
  • On social media via the University’s main channels

Should public health determine that there is a health and safety risk on campus due to a positive case of COVID-19, the University will be provided with directives and appropriate steps will be taken. All contact tracing will be handled by public health and any individuals who may have been in close contact and may be at risk will be contacted directly.

Nipissing has developed comprehensive protocols for any reported confirmed case of COVID-19. These have been developed in close consultation with the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit.

What is an outbreak?

Locally, the Nipissing Parry Sound District Health Unit (Health Unit) is responsible for declaring outbreaks within their district.  The Health Unit may consider declaring an outbreak when:

  • There are two or more connected cases of COVID-19 within a workplace setting, or
  • There is one positive COVID-19 case in either a student or a staff member within the residence complexes
