Welcome to Lakers Orientation 2019!

Lakers Orientation for undergraduate students happens August 24 to September 1, 2019. Orientation provides you with a week filled with fun activities to connect you with your future classmates, get familiar with campus, experience your unique faculty community and learn about what Nipissing University has to offer.

Lakers Orientation week is a collaborative initiative with programming offered by Residence Life, Lakers Academy and Frosh (NUSU).  Events listed below will indicate if there are any restrictions for attendance.

City Bus Tour

Get acquainted with North Bay by jumping aboard city transit bus for a guided tour of the City of North bay. Great way to test your new bus pass and learn how to use the MyRideNBT website. Bus Google Maps to plan your route.

Guided Hike

Experienced guide, Lori Beckerton will lead participants on an educational hike through the campus trails teaching about the various edible, medicinal, and poisonous plants that call our campus home! The hike will be 2 hours at a very leisurely pace stopping to learn about plants along the way. Students are encouraged to dress for the weather and wear appropriate footwear for rough (and possibly muddy!) terrain. Consider bringing along a water bottle and snack (allergen free please!), bug spray, and sunscreen. Meet at the picnic tables by the pond for just before 2 pm. Speed Friending

Speed friending: it's like speed dating, but platonic! Speed Friending offers a number of activities to introduce students to each other. The goal of this event is to assist new students in befriending others of whom they have similar interests. By creating a collaborative and creative environment, students will be able to show their skills and interests in a group setting.

 

Sexy Bingo

Come out and help us raise money and awareness for Cystic Fibrosis Canada at 12 locations around North Bay and surrounding areas. Bragging rights for the team who raises the most money!

 

BRITE Cooking Night

For students living in Residence

Come out to your complex kitchen and learn the basics of cooking a good meal before you head out for a night of carnival fun!

 

Carnival Night

Close the Orientation Week with a carnival in the Chancellors House parking lot. Enjoy inflatable games, sports, competitions, and snacks with your fellow residence and frosh friends.

At the beginning of the week, students will have the opportunity to sign up for a volunteer station. They will be able to travel to that station in the North Bay community to gain some experience and achieve their first RSD approved event.

 

Lip Sync Practice

Teams will be presenting their final lip sync’s at closing ceremonies. This is the time that teams can use to practice their songs.
