Certificate Workshops and Event Requests

Mental Health & Wellbeing Training Opportunities
We are pleased to provide a range of mental health training sessions to students, staff, and community members. These workshops are designed to enhance your knowledge and skills in addressing mental health concerns effectively.

Participants will receive a comprehensive resource book and an official certificate from the developer organization upon completion.

Take advantage of this opportunity to gain valuable insights and tools for promoting mental health and wellbeing in your community.

For groups of fifteen or more, we can arrange a separate training session. Please contact us at mhworkshops@nipissingu.ca to discuss further.

Mental Health & Wellbeing is available to support events around Mental Health and Wellness topics on campus.

We can also offer private Certificate Workshops for a select group of participants as long as the minimum requirements are met.

(Requests should be submitted at least 8 weeks in advance of the event request date)

The safeTALK course was created by an organization called LivingWorks Inc. to teach participants to recognize persons who have thoughts of suicide and refer them to people who are trained to do a Suicide Intervention. The course is available to anyone over the age of 15 and is approximately 3 hours in length.

ASIST

Livingworks Asist Logo

Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training ASIST is a two-day interactive workshop, developed by LivingWorks Inc., that focuses on suicide first aid. ASIST equips participants with the skills to recognize when someone may be experiencing suicidal thoughts and collaborate with them to develop a plan that ensures their immediate safety.

While ASIST is widely utilized by healthcare providers, no formal training is required to attend. The workshop is accessible to anyone aged 16 or older, making it a valuable resource for a broad audience.

Small Talk

Small Talk is an interactive half-day workshop which examines warning signs in a child and explores intervention strategies through stories and case studies. This workshop is a Centre for Suicide Prevention Course for those working with children under the age of 12 who may have thoughts of suicide, with a focus on childhood development. This course is approximately 3.5 hours in duration.

Mental Health First Aid – Adults who Interact With Youth

This workshop, a Mental Health Commission of Canada course, was developed to train people to provide initial support to someone who may be developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. Mental Health First Aid: Adults Who Interact with Youth focuses on mental health problems and first aid for youth ages 12 - 24. Topics include Mental Health problems and Stigma, Substance-related disorders, mood disorders, Anxiety and Trauma related disorders, Eating disorders and Psychotic disorders. This workshop is two days in duration.

Looking Forward

Looking Forward is an interactive half-day workshop created for individuals working with youth aged 12 to 24. This workshop, a Centre for Suicide Prevention Course it discusses strategies to encompass the developmental, cognitive, and emotional differences found within this age group. This course is approximately 3.5 hours in duration.

Workshop Policies

  • All Certificate Workshops require a participation fee.
  • Registrations for Certificate Workshops close one week prior to the workshop date.
  • All registration and payment must be completed online via the provided sign-up link.
  • Courses are offered based on demand.
  • Workshops will be cancelled if the minimum number of registrants is not met.
  • Location: Unless otherwise specified, all workshops take place at Nipissing University (100 College Drive, North Bay, ON).
  • Confirmation Email: Registrants will receive a confirmation email 5 days before the workshop, including the room location details.
  • Food and meals are not provided during the workshops.
  • Full attendance is required. Missing more than 20 minutes will result in no certificate of completion.

Cancellations & Refunds: If a session is cancelled, you’ll be notified via email up to 3 days prior to the workshop date.

  • You may choose to receive a refund or transfer to another workshop date.
  • Refunds incur a $10 administration fee unless the workshop is cancelled by us.
  • Refunds will not be processed for cancellations made less than 5 days before the workshop.
