Career Development and Education strives to support students in initiating career development from the moment their university career begins. Our goal is to empower students in their pursuit of obtaining a fulfilling career by providing support through our resources, workshops, and services. These supports aid students in gaining skills and knowledge that address their needs in making informed decisions for their career(s), further education, and employment goals.

Career Development and Education is proud to offer a variety of career-focused training sessions for students. These workshops are designed to help you build valuable knowledge and skills related to career planning and development.

Resume and Cover Letter

​​​​​Duration: 1 hour

Target Audience: This workshop is designed for students who are preparing to enter the job market or apply for internships and want to develop strong, professional cover letters and resumes.

Overview: Participants will learn the purpose and key components of both cover letters and resumes, explore best practices and writing rules, and gain confidence in presenting their skills effectively to potential employers. By the end of the workshop, students will understand how to create documents that stand out and support their career goals.

Articulating Your Skills

​​​​​Duration: 1 hour

Target Audience: This workshop is designed for students who want to better understand and communicate the skills they’ve developed through their academic, extracurricular, and everyday university experiences.

Overview: This session helps students recognize and confidently communicate the valuable skills they’ve gained through academic work, campus involvement, and everyday experiences. Participants will learn why articulating skills matter to employers, explore strategies for connecting their experiences to marketable strengths, and reflect on their unique abilities to stand out in interviews and applications.

Interview Preparation

​​​​​Duration: 1 hour

Target Audience: This workshop is designed for students seeking internships, co-op positions, or full-time roles who want to strengthen their interview skills and feel prepared for any interview scenario.

Overview: This session prepares students to approach interviews with confidence and professionalism. Participants will learn effective interview techniques, discover strategies for success in various interview settings, and practice constructing strong answers to common questions. By the end of the workshop, students will be equipped to demonstrate positive interviewing skills and make a lasting impression on potential employers.

What Can I Do with My Degree?

​​​​​Duration: 1 hour

Target Audience: This workshop is designed for students who are curious about career options connected to their program and want practical strategies to leverage their university experience for future success.

Overview: This session helps students connect their academic program to real-world opportunities. Participants will identify the skills and competencies developed through their studies, explore career fields related to different degree areas, and learn strategies to make the most of their time at Nipissing University. By the end of the workshop, students will feel more confident about how their degree can open doors to diverse career paths.

Career Exploration

​​​​​Duration: 1 hour

Target Audience: This workshop is designed for students who are unsure about their career direction or want to start planning for life after graduation by exploring options that fit their skills, values, and interests.

Overview: This session introduces students to the four stages of the Career Development Process and provides practical strategies for setting a clear career path. Participants will begin identifying their personal values and interests, helping them make informed decisions about future opportunities. By the end of the workshop, students will have a foundation for exploring careers that align with their goals and aspirations.

Volunteer Opportunities

The RSD is a co-curricular transcript that students actively build throughout their studies by participating in workshops, training, volunteering, leadership roles, or on-campus employment and logging in to record their involvement on their online RSD account.
