Residence Front Desk

At each front desk you have access to many different services! Staff are also available to answer or direct you to the answer of questions that you may have about residence, on-campus and off-campus services. Accessing services at the front desk? Don’t forget to bring and show your student ID!

Front Desk Hours of Operation

Hours listed below are our general office hours (they may differ slightly from building to building) and are subject to last minute changes. Please stop by the front desk for the most up-to-date hours for the week.

Our offices are staffed by professional and student staff. Our goal is to serve you during our regular hours of operation, however, there are times that we are unable to do so due to staffing availability.

Monday - Thursday:

9:30am - 12:30pm, 1:00 - 4:00pm, 4:30 - 7:00pm, 7:30pm - 10:00pm

Friday:

9:30am - 12:30pm, 1:00 - 4:00pm, 4:30pm - 3:00am

Saturday:

10:00am - 12:30pm, 1:00 - 6:00pm, 6:30 - 3:00am

Sunday:

10:00am - 12:30pm, 1:00 - 6:00pm, 6:30 - 9:00pm

Front Desk Services

Printing

Printing and Photocopying

  • 10 cents per imprint, cash only
  • Colour printing or photocopying is not available in residence. Please see Print Plus, the Harris Learning Library or the Student Union during their office hours to access colour printing and/or photocopying
  • Please email your document to the front desk prior to attending, however, staff will not print your items until you attend the desk

Scanning

  • Scan your physical documents into a .pdf file for free

Faxing

  • Currently not available in residence
  • See Print Plus for more assistance with faxing

Rentals

There are many different rentals available from the front desk! From utility items, fun and games, to sporting equipment. Access to these items is FREE but are only available when the front desk is open.

Tuck Shop

We offer a variety of emergency items for as close to at cost as possible. These are cash only items that are only available when the front desk is open.

Lost and Found

If you have lost or found an item in or outside of a residence building, please stop by the front desk.

  • Residence will make efforts to return found items to their owners if known, however, it is the responsibility of residents to inquire at the front desk often to see if their item has been turned in
  • Items that are not claimed within 30 days will be placed on a residence donation table and/or sent to a local charity

Cost

  • $1.50/wash
  • $1.50/dry
  • Machines accept one (1) loonie and two (2) quarters

Need change to do your laundry?

  • Bring your coins and bills to the front desk to be swapped for loonies and quarters
  • We cannot accept bills larger than $20

Maintenance Issues?

  • Having an issue with a machine? Please fill out the online maintenance request form
    • After filling out the online residence maintenance request, please advise a front desk staff so that they can place an out of order sign on the machine
  • Front desk staff cannot provide refunds for laundry machine related issues; after filling out the maintenance request a maintenance staff will follow up with more details

Townhouses (laundry card operated)

  • Machines are maintained by Canadore College through an external provider, Sparkle Solutions
  • Please contact Sparkle Solutions with any questions or concerns - contact information is posted in the laundry room
  • Residents must load money onto a laundry card to access laundry services
    • First-time and returning users can load money onto a card from within the laundry room

Cost

  • Washers: $2.00 cold or $2.25 warm or $2.50 hot
  • Dryers: $2.00 per load
Instructions to reload your laundry card:
  1. Login to:  www.mysparkle.ca
  2. Enter your 10 digit SparkleXpress card number located on the back of the card
  3. Click on the “PURCHASE VALUE” tab at the top of the page
  4. Select a Value to purchase then press proceed
  5. The payment page will open, enter Credit Card payment information
  6. Once completed you will be returned to www.mysparkle.ca and your value will show as “pending”
  7. Return to the Value Add Centre, place SparkleXpress card on reader to transfer purchased value

Important notices to all residents

  • Residence is not responsible for lost or stolen laundry items; we recommend residents to not leave their items unattended
  • Residents must remove their items in a timely manner to ensure access to machines by others
  • Items remaining in a machine for longer than 12 hours will be removed and brought to the front desk
  • Don't be negligent, damage can be costly - be conscious about your use of the laundry machines as negligence towards their use may result in restitution to pay for the damages

Mail Services

Sending and Receiving Mail

All mail is centrally accepted and processed through Nipissing University’s Shipping and Receiving department. Mail can only be accepted at this location Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm. Mail is received at residence from campus once per business day through courier service. While your delivery company/ package tracking may say "delivered", please wait for an email directly from the Front Desk!

Packages delivered directly to residence from external courier services at any time of the day or day of the week will not be accepted. Residence Life and Nipissing University are not liable for missing or stolen packages that have been delivered directly to residence by external couriers.

Important Notices

  • Oversized, heavy and/or awkwardly shaped packages may not be sent through the courier; in these instances, it is the responsibility of the resident to collect the item from Shipping and Receiving in a timely manner
  • Residence is unable to refrigerate any items and cannot store items for extended periods of time
  • Residence cannot and will not accept or receive packages through the mail or through delivery that contain cannabis or alcohol, please set up a "Flex Delivery" through Canada Post for these products

Maintenance Services

The Residence Caretakers, along with campus Facilities staff and external contractors, are responsible for completing all maintenance within the buildings.

Students may request repairs or services in their suite or townhouse by completing an online maintenance request form.

  • By completing this form, you are giving consent that a maintenance person has permission to enter your room, suite, and/or townhouse.
  • After submitting this form, residents are responsible for notifying their roommates of the request
  • For health, sanitary or safety reasons, you may be permanently reassigned to more suitable accommodations if the repairs are extensive or unable to be completed in a timely manner.

Parking Services

Residents who wish to bring a vehicle to campus must connect with with Campus Security and Parking Services.

  • Vehicles may only park in the residence parking lots if a valid designated permit has been issued
  • You may purchase a parking pass online, and pick it up at the Security and Parking Services Office located in B203 in the Education Centre

Plug-in parking is available during the winter months. Arrangements for plug-in parking can be made in late fall through the residence front desk for an additional fee of $100.00. Students will be notified when plug-in parking becomes available through their student email.

  • Parking enforcement in residence is conducted by Campus Security and Parking Services staff

Recycling Services

On the North Bay campus, at both Chancellors House and Founders House, cardboard recycling bins can be found in the back of the building and all other recycling receptacles are found in the room behind the elevator. At Governors House, the recycling receptacles are located in the first floor garbage room. At the Townhouse Residence Complex, they can be found along the side of the residence front desk.

Please sort your recyclable items into the appropriate bins and help contribute to the recycling effort.

Internet Access

All bedrooms come complete with both wireless and wired Internet. From your room, you will be able to access wireless internet; to access wired internet, you must provide your own ethernet cable. Wireless internet is available in all areas of each residence complex.

Storage

Limited and shared storage is available in each suite/townhouse and use of storage space is to be agreed upon by all residents in each suite or townhouse. Storage is not available during summer months; however, booking commercial storage space within the city is an option for students.

Vending Machines and ATMs

There are vending machines located in various common areas around residence.

  • If there are any concerns regarding the machines or products, please let residence front desk know
  • If there are any concerns regarding a refund for a product, please contact the company directly using the number located on the poster near the machine

There are Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) located in the lobbies of Chancellors House, Founders House, and Governors House. Additional ATMs can be found within the Education Centre.
