Cairns presenting at TESS18

Steve Cairns, assistant professor in School of Nursing’s RPN to BScN Blended Learning Program, will be presenting at the upcoming Technology Enabled Seminar + Showcase (TESS), eCampusOntario.

The TESS seminar and showcase will explore the skills, knowledge, and attributes required to extend and transform teaching and learning practices through collaboration and connections with colleagues from colleges and universities across Ontario. It takes place in Toronto, November 12 – 13, 2018.

Cairns will present with Michael Dabrowski, academic coordinator of Spanish at Athabasca University.  The presentation is titled Redefining humanity for a digital context, why collaboration matters.

Here is an abstract:

Human collaboration amidst rapid technological change and exponential growth in machine learning provokes a need for vigilance in how people define/describe what it means to be human in the digital age. What began as a diverging conversation about humanizing digital experiences has led co-presenters Cairns and Dabrowski on a path towards reimagining perspectives on human capacity through collaborative dialogue.  This session aims to engage participants by challenging polarizing perspectives while demonstrating a collaborative process that redefines ‘being human’ within digital experiences. The session explores the question ‘why collaborate’ as a skill essential for: a) developing uniquely human insight, b) growth in the human potential of knowledge networks, and c) resiliency amidst social change within a digital age.
