Last chance to see the future with NU2042 - Time Travellers Wanted

NU 25th Speaker Series 5 Poster

The end is nigh!  Your last chance to see what the future holds is upon you. Get thee to the Grande Event Centre on December 7 at 7 p.m. for the fifth and final instalment of NU2042, Nipissing’s futuristic faculty speaker series.

Five faculty presenters will look 25 years into the future through the lens of their research.  Each speaks for just five minutes each, making for an accessible, fast-paced evening that’s sure to inspire some thoughtful discussion.  A question and answer session follows the presentations.

Faculty speaking on December 7 include:

  • Dr. Mark Bruner, Associate Professor School of Physical and Health Education, and Canada Research Chair in Youth Development through Sport and Physical Activity;
  • Dr. Carly Dokis, Associate Professor Anthropology;
  • Dr. Kirsten Greer, Assistant Professor History and Geography, and Canada Research Chair in Global Environmental Histories and Geographies;
  • Dr. April James, Associate Professor of Geography and Canada Research Chair Watershed Analysis and Modelling; and
  • Dr. Astrid Steele, Associate Professor, Schulich School of Education;

Throughout the previous four NU2042 events, we’ve seen the future through the mind of a young aboriginal student, learned about human evolution, the future of literacy, information waves in future libraries, the importance of social entrepreneurship, the potential for engineered eyes and brains, racism and hatred, artificial intelligence, how we can combat human trafficking, what religion might look like in a quarter century, and the death of football.

It’s been a great time every time.

What will the world look like in 2042? What amazing new inventions will have transformed our collective reality? Who will be the global super powers? Will we be able to breathe the air? Will earth be a garden paradise or a dystopian wasteland?

NU2042 is part of Nipissing University’s 25th anniversary celebrations.

Predicting the future is always difficult, but by gauging the impact of the first three NU2042 events, you are going to have a great time.
