Silver celebrations start Friday

Get ready to celebrate NU!; The 25th anniversary of Nipissing’s charter is on the horizon in 2017 and we’re going to launch a year of celebrations on Friday, December 2, at 10 a.m. in the main foyer. Nipissing University received its charter, becoming an independent degree-granting institution, on December 10, 1992. The university is launching a year of celebrations this Friday, leading up to December 10, 2017, and the official 25th Anniversary.

The university will be unveiling a new 25th Anniversary logo and attendees will hear speeches from key individuals at Nipissing as well as community leaders.

This event is the first stop in Nipissing’s silver-plated celebrations. More events are planned throughout the year. We’ll also be sharing some cool historical discoveries pulled from Nipissing’s archives.

Today, NU News offers a short slide show featuring of photographs from December 10, 1992, taken shortly after NU was granted its Charter in Ontario’s Legislature. To celebrate the momentous occasion with the community, Nipissing students, staff and faculty took to the streets with signs celebrating Canada’s newest university. President Dave Marshall pulled out a can of white spray paint to serve as liquid paper, correcting the old Nipissing University College sign to reflect the new Nipissing University reality.

Were you there? Do you remember that day? NU News would love to share your memories of Nipissing’s past, just type them out and send an email to communications@nipissingu.ca.
