Psych talk examines human voice and sexual selection

Nipissing University’s Psychology department Speaker Series is pleased to welcome Dr. David Puts to campus for a special lecture, titled The voice as a model trait for studying human sexual selection, on March 29 at 11:30 a.m. in room H105.
Dr. Puts hails from the department of Anthropology at Pennsylvania State University.

Here’s an abstract on his talk:
Are humans basically monogamous, or were our ancestors able to monopolize multiple mates? Did mating competition primarily take the form of mate attraction, or did physical force and threats play a larger role? We can infer ancestral selection such as these by examining the traits that they produced. In this talk, we will examine a trait that offers a surprising window into ancestral human mating: the human voice.
