NU Listens offers coffee and training

As students begin to return to campus for a new school year, Nipissing’s Office of Student Development and Services is pleased to offer opportunities for faculty and staff to get involved effectively and assist with mental health support.NU Listens provides training to faculty and staff to help them be more effective listeners and provide appropriate referrals to students who approach them with personal issues, mental health issues or are in need of other professional services.
NU Listens lets students know that Nipissing cares about their wellbeing, invites students to seek out supportive helpers, and provides opportunities for campus wide dialogue about mental health and wellness issues.
Students are able to identify faculty and staff who are participating in the NU Listens program by a NU Listens sign in their workspace. These individuals are willing to listen to student concerns, are knowledgeable about resources available, and can help students connect to professional assistance.
Interested faculty and staff can complete the on-line training moduleMore Feet on the Ground anytime, or can join the counseling team on August 17 at 9 a.m. or 10:30 a.m. in the computer lab at the Harris Learning Library to learn more while enjoying Twiggs coffee and baked goods. Just email Terry Mady, counselor in Student Counseling Services atterrym@nipissingu.ca to reserve your spot.
