New fund helps launch student initiatives

There’s a new fund on campus to help students make their ideas into reality. The Student Initiatives Fund (SIF) is available to fund student initiatives every year, with its primary focus on seed funding for new projects.“Students often have excellent ideas for projects that can contribute to a vibrant student experience on campus. Turning these ideas into reality, however, can cost more than an individual student can afford,” said Casey Phillips, assistant vice-president of students. “The university has a stated commitment to supporting the student experience, so if you are a student with a great idea, please submit an application. We are all excited to see what projects will come forward for consideration for SIF funding.”
Decisions regarding funding are made by the SIF Review Committee, which is comprised of student representatives from the Nipissing University Student Union, and the office of the assistant vice-president of students.
An individual student or student group may submit an SIF application once per initiative/project. Each application will be limited to a maximum of:$1000 awarded for an individual project/initiative$2500 awarded for a group project/initiative
For more information, and to apply for funding, please see the website.
Students may apply to the fund only once per project/initiative. Submission deadlines for applications is the Friday following the Reading Break in both Fall and Winter semesters. After that time, no other applications will be considered for use during that semester.Fall Semester Deadline: November 21, 2016Winter Semester Deadline: March 3, 2017
Funding for the SIF originates from ancillary fees, but do not cause a rise in ancillary fees. The ancillary fees committee voted to repurpose existing funds for the SIF that were being collected for the Cancopy fee, which was no longer necessary.?
