Meet your 2016-17 NUSU executive team

The Nipissing University Student Union (NUSU) will have five executives officially starting their new positions on May 1.  Here’s your chance to discover a little more about the people who will be leading NU’s student government for the 2016-17 academic year. Jordan Andrews, President president@nusu.com Born and bred in Northern Ontario, Andrews is currently in his fifth year at Nipissing and is completing his thesis in Psychology. His career at Nipissing has been marked by activity and involvement keeping him busy as a Frosh Leader, research assistant, teaching assistant, student senate representative and NUSU vice-president. Andrews’ goal is to build and maintain bridges and ties between the student union and Nipissing’s students, faculty, staff and administration as well as the North Bay community. The coming year see further governance reform in NUSU in addition to furthering the development and construction of the student centre. Andrews is looking forward to working with the new executive team and seeing what this year brings.  Markus Hawco, VP Finance vpfinance@nusu.com Hawco is entering his fourth year in the Business Administration program, specializing in Economics and Marketing. In the past few years he has been a Residence Don and Community Advisor for the Chancellors House Residence Complex, as well as President of the Nipissing University Student Alumni. Hawco hopes to create a lasting financial plan that will ensure efficient spending, promote student life and increase the potential of NUSU. He hopes to work closely with all faculty, especially in the Business program, utilizing their expertise and experience for the benefit of students.  Hawco also looks forward to working with Nipissing administration to help ensure the efficient use of student dollars.  Jordan Dempster, VP Governance & Legal Affairs vpgovernance@nusu.com Dempster is heading into his final year in the Criminal Justice program with a minor in Business Administration. He has previously worked on the Board of Directors for NUSU, and helps volunteer and organize community initiatives with the Criminal Justice Honours society, Alpha Phi Sigma. Dempster believes that academics are extremely important and will be working hard as a representative in Senate. He is extremely excited about the new opportunities for NUSU in the coming years and hopes to work in unison with the faculty and administration to enhance student life, both socially and academically. Dempster has a strong sense of pride that comes with serving the great community of North Bay.  Brittaney Kent, VP Communications vpcommunications@nusu.com Kent is entering her fourth year of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. Throughout her time at Nipissing she has been busy as a member of the NUSU Crew, a Frosh leader and a Director-at-large on NUSU's Board of Directors. Kent is extremely passionate about women's safety on campus, equality and equity for students of minority groups, and student pride. Communication between the Student Union and its students is very important and Kent hopes to improve this and help students feel passionate about their campus. She is excited to work closely with the university faculty and administration to make sure that student issues are addressed effectively.    Dave Ratcliffe, VP Services vpservices@nusu.com Ratcliffe is currently a fourth-year Honours Geography student, minoring in History and Religion. He has been involved in Residence as a Floor Representative as well as a Frosh Leader and Director-at-Large for NUSU. Ratcliffe is thrilled to be planning Frosh Week 2016, as well as the annual Shinerama campaign. His goal is to provide programming and opportunities for Nipissing students and work alongside fellow executives, students, faculty and administration. His is passionate about strengthening the ties between NUSU and the Nipissing Residence department. This year's Frosh Theme is Frosh Week's Greatest Hits 2016 and Ratcliffe and the executive team are looking forward to making this year the greatest hit.
