Momentum extended to include professional development

Nipissing University’s Student Development and Services will be extending Momentum to include professional development opportunities for staff at the university through the Full-Time Academic Staff Bargaining Unit's labour action. Up coming professional development events include #NUperspective - Bringing in the Bystander and Safetalk. Locations for the workshops have yet to be announced.

#NUperspective - Bringing in the Bystander will take place on Wednesday, November 18, from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. This is a sexual violence and prevention workshop.  Drawing from best practices the BITB curriculum teaches participants the concept of bystander intervention and the role of the bystander in the prevention of sexual violence. Participants will develop skills and gain a deeper understanding of the continuum of inappropriate sexual behaviour, their own barriers to intervention and techniques to act and intervene.

Safetalk will take place on Friday, November 20, from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. This workshop was created by an organization called LivingWorks Inc. to teach participants to recognize persons who have thoughts of suicide and refer them to people who are trained to do a Suicide Intervention.  The course is available to anyone over the age of 15 and is approximately 3 hours in length.

Momentum was launched as part of the university’s ongoing commitment to students by providing opportunities for continued engagement in their education.

If you are interested in attending either of these workshops please email OSDS@nipissingu.ca as early as possible as space is limited in the sessions.

The regular fee charged for these specific programs will be waived by SDS.
