Dr. Kovacs – The Mangrove Mapper

Geography professor, Dr. John Kovacs, is featured in the current issue of International Innovation, published by Research Media.In the piece, Dr. Kovacs, aka the Mangrove Mapper, talks about the ecological importance of mangrove forests, emphasizes the need for effective long-term monitoring and mapping, and highlights some novel techniques through which this can be accomplished.
Earlier this year, Dr. Kovacs earned a $145,000 ($29,000 per year for 5 years) grant from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) for his project, titled Alternative Methods for Assessing and Monitoring Mangrove Forests. This is his fourth consecutive NSERC Discovery grant.
