Charlie Angus delivering History keynote

Nipissing University is pleased to announce that Charlie Angus, MP Timmins - James Bay, will deliver the annual History keynote address on Friday, March 28, at 7 p.m. in room H106, with a talk, titled What Reconciliation Looks Like on the Ground: First Nations and Settlers in Canada Then and Now.Mr. Angus serves Canada both as a historian and as a politician. Because of what he has learned about the long history of inequitable relations between First Nations people and settlers in Canada Mr. Angus has become an advocate for treaty keeping in the heart of our national government.
His most recent project is a song and a video called Four Horses. Mr. Angus was moved by a recent book which showed that Sir John A. MacDonald intentionally used famine as a political weapon against the Plains First Nations (James Daschuk, Clearing the Plains). Mr. Angus wrote Four Horses to bring the story out of the academy and into the hearts of Canadians. You can see a video of the song here.
Following the talk, guests are invited to a gathering at the Raven and Republic (246 First Ave. W., North Bay).
The event is free of charge and all are welcome.
