Scholarship to honour Lindsay Wilson

Nipissing University and the family of student Lindsay Wilson, who was murdered on April 5, 2013, just two weeks prior to the end of her graduating year, are working to establish a memorial scholarship in her name. The scholarship will be awarded annually to students who demonstrate the same sort of passion, commitment and advocacy in social services that Wilson displayed while working with people with intellectual disabilities. Wilson was posthumously awarded her Honours Bachelor of Arts in Child and Family Studies, earned at Nipissing’s Muskoka Campus in Bracebridge, in June.A message from the family of Lindsay Wilson
Our family wants to thank you for your support and compassion upon the death of our beloved daughter, sister, and granddaughter, Lindsay Margaret Wilson on April 5, 2013 at the age of 26. We are so proud of her accomplishments and the awarding of her Honours Bachelor of Arts, Child and Family Studies degree posthumously on June 14, 2013 by Nipissing University.
Many of you have spoken about the lives Lindsay touched in her own short life, and of her passion and advocacy for the work that she did with people having intellectual and physical disabilities. In her own words, written among various diary notes she wrote a year ago, she said:
“I have lived a meaningful life. Remember that I have loved my time, and have done my best to make the most of it.”
We, her family, together with Nipissing University and Muskoka Victim Services of the Ministry of the Attorney General, believe it important to encourage others into this type of work. We want to honour her passion and commitment for service to others.
We are therefore asking for your help to fund an endowment that will be used to create a perpetual memorial scholarship in Lindsay’s name at Nipissing University for students demonstrating passion, commitment and experience in social services. To award an annual scholarship, we need to raise a base amount of $10,000. With your help, we are confident we can raise these funds. We would deeply appreciate your support or that of your business in our efforts to launch this scholarship.
Any and all donations are tax deductible. All funds will be administered by Nipissing University, which will provide a tax receipt to you or your business for your contribution. We hope to notify donors annually of the awarding of the scholarship and its recipient.
