Nipissing Brantford hosting Gifted Outreach conference

Nipissing University’s Schulich School of Education in Brantford will welcome some 400 gifted grades 4 to 6 students to campus on November 18 for the Gifted Outreach conference.The students hail from the school boards of Grand Erie, Avon Maitland, Waterloo Catholic, Hamilton-Wentworth and Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic.
The GO Conference includes 36 workshops designed and facilitated by students in the Schulich School of Education Curriculum Methods course taught by Courtney Brewer and Jim Deighan.
The conference begins at 9:15 a.m. with a keynote address at the Sanderson Centre by Jeannie McCarroll, an art teacher with Waterloo Catholic District School Board. McCarroll will set the theme of the Conference “Art-Tech Fusion” with a discussion of student projects that include skateboard design and outdoor sculpture.
Following the keynote, students will participate in a variety of workshops exploring the “Art-Tech Fusion” theme.
Workshop titles include: Blast from the Past, Build a Hero, Survivor and Keeping Your Cool.
Conference workshops will be held in Brantford at Nipissing University (Wellington St. and Darling St. buildings), and the Sanderson Centre.
