Introducing the first annual Paul Nelson Memorial Hockey Game

Nipissing University is proud to host the first annual Paul Nelson Memorial Hockey Game, November 23, from 2 – 3:30 p.m. at Memorial Gardens, with fourth-year Bachelor of Physical Health and Education students facing off against Nipissing faculty and staff.
Paul Nelson was a hard working and well respected student in Nipissing’s Bachelor of Physical Health and Education program, who volunteered with his local fire department. He died last year in a tragic accident while responding to a fire call.

To honour his memory, Nelson’s friends and some Nipissing faculty decided to create a scholarship in his name and are raising funds through a memorial hockey game.

“Paul did everything in his power to accommodate the people that were special to him, often putting the needs of others before his own. His passion for Nipissing and for the BPHE was unparalleled and his enthusiasm was evident in every class he attended,” said Matthew Mcrae, one of Nelson’s best friends and a fellow BPHE student.  “We really miss Paul and wanted to do something lasting to honour his memory.  A scholarship and hockey game seemed like the perfect fit, combining his desire to help others with his love of sports.”

Admission to attend the game is a donation to the food bank, or a monetary donation.

Students, staff and faculty wishing to play in the game, will pay a small fee to raise money.

All proceeds will be split between the scholarship fund in Paul Nelson’s name and Kid Sport North Bay.
