Nipissing welcomes new students

Future Nipissing University students are in for an exciting day as they get their first taste of what it’s like to be a part of the Nipissing community during the annual New Student Orientation (NSO).

The event, designed to ensure students are prepared to hit the ground running on their academic journey, takes place at the North Bay campus July 5, 7, 11, 13 and 15 from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Maxwell Dickinson, from Cobourg, Ontario, will be attending NSO on July 7 and says he can’t wait.

“I’m really excited about coming to Nipissing in September, especially after visiting the campus last fall and learning that it provides more quality one-on-one time with professors,” he said. “Nipissing has impressed me. Everyone is professional and friendly, and I think that the students are happy and are there to learn.”

“Having once been in the shoes of a nervous new student, we have been working tirelessly to ensure all students have the best experience possible during their NSO day. We want each and every student to feel relaxed and excited about starting their university career this coming September,” said Miranda Hunt, a Nipissing graduate and NSO Orientation Leader.

NSO provides first-year students with the chance to learn essential information about Nipissing. Students will have the opportunity to meet professors, accurately select courses with an Academic Advisor, learn about the services, resources and extra-curricular activities and receive an in-depth tour of the campus including the brand new Harris Learning Library. Additionally, NSO participants can talk to current students about the transition to university and how to prepare for classes in September, as well as connect with fellow classmates.

“Now that I know that I’ll be attending Nipissing in September and that I’ll be studying Sociology with an eye to entering the Schulich School of Education, NSO will be valuable because I can get the exact information that I need. Plus, I can start to get to know my professors and classmates,” said Maxwell.

Nipissing has invited almost 650 new students to NSO and expects to welcome more than 1,000 people to North Bay, including students and their family and friends.
