Announcing Harnessing Biomass II

The Biomass Innovation Centre at Nipissing University is pleased to announce Harnessing Biomass II: Support for Northern Ontario Bioeconomy Initiatives. This two-day conference runs November 22 – 23 at the Clarion Resort Pinewood Park in North Bay.
The first Harnessing Biomass conference took place in 2009 at Nipissing University and was a great success, with over 400 participants and 60 speakers exploring the challenges and opportunities in the development of new renewable energy sources from forest biomass. New initiatives are contributing to an innovative and sustainable bioeconomy for the North.

This year’s event is aimed to increase knowledge about Ontario’s bioeconomy and to provide support for local forest and agriculture initiatives. Day one of the conference will feature two learning streams: forest origin feedstocks and purpose grown energy crops. An afternoon field trip to recent forest biomass harvesting operations is also planned.

The second day of the conference is devoted to topics such as project development and funding opportunities, and information related to wood pellet production and technology, torrefaction, gasification technologies, proper boiler installation and community district heating. The day will wrap up with a series of case studies from across Ontario.

The cost for this conference is $50 per day, which includes coffee, lunch and conference materials. Registration for this event is open until Thursday, November 18.
