POSITION TITLE: Research Assistant – Drosophila Genetics Laboratory
CLOSING DATE: September 19, 2021
EMPLOYMENT DATES: September 2021 to April 2022
HOURS OF WORK: Up to 120 Hours
RATE OF PAY: $14.25/hour plus Vacation Pay
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The successful applicant will assist in the maintenance of the Nipissing Drosophila Genetics Laboratory, working collaboratively with the Principal Investigator.
DUTIES INCLUDE:
The successful candidate will assist with the following:
- Preparation of Drosophila nutrient medium
- Transfers of Drosophila fly cultures onto fresh medium
- Maintenance of Drosophila mutant stocks
- Systematic screening of culture vials for abnormalities and infections
- Monitoring/maintenance of laboratory equipment and culture supplies
- General laboratory maintenance
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must apply and be approved for the NUWORK Program
- Senior student (3rd or 4th year) preferred
- Biology/Chemistry major or minor preferred
