POSITION TITLE: Gateway Transition Program Student Assistant

HOURS OF WORK: Average 10 hours per week
RATE OF PAY: $15.50/hour plus Vacation Pay
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Gateway Transition Program Student Assistant assists incoming students as they transition to life and study at Nipissing University through student engagement. The incumbent will work collaboratively with Peer Educators in the Student Learning & Transitions (SLT) department to develop, promote, and deliver synchronous and asynchronous learning opportunities and resources
DUTIES INCLUDE:
The Academic Success Program Student Assistant will support the SLT team by assisting with:
- Promoting learning and mentorship opportunities to incoming students
- Developing learning opportunities under the direction of Student Learning Coordinators and Student Experience Coordinators
- Conducting research into the transition needs of diverse groups of students
- Facilitating Student Success Workshops under the direction of the Student Learning Coordinators and Student Experience Coordinators
- Lakers Winter Orientation programming
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must apply and be approved for the NUWORK Program
- Excellent level of responsibility, reliability, and punctuality.
- Good interpersonal communication skills and ease in relating to people from varying educational, cultural, and social backgrounds.
- Knowledge of Nipissing University programs, initiatives, and services that promote student academic and personal success.
- Be available for a minimum 6 hours per week during 8:30-4:30 timeslot
