POSITION TITLE: Residence Office Assistant
CLOSING DATE: September 8, 2019
EMPLOYMENT DATES: September 2019 to April 2020
HOURS OF WORK: Average 10 hours per week
RATE OF PAY: $14.00/hour plus Vacation Pay
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Residence Office Assistant assists with the operation of the front desk providing customer service support to the assigned Residence complex.
DUTIES INCLUDE:
The Residence Office Assistant will assist with the following:
- Providing general information about residence, the university, and the local community
- Fostering a positive, friendly, and inclusive atmosphere through the front desk
- Assisting with general office duties (e.g. sorting mail, answer inquiries, word processing, filing, etc.)
- Assisting with financial transactions (e.g. laundry change, ticket sales, tuck shop sales, etc.)
- Assisting with equipment sign out for residents (e.g. vacuum, mop/bucket, carts, etc.)
- Assisting Residence Clerk, and Residence Supervisors with other tasks as required
- Assisting with residence programming and service promotion (e.g. poster creation, photocopying, collecting materials, social media posts, bulletin board creation)
- Participating in residence programming, passive programming provided at the front desk
- Reporting damages or maintenance issues that need to be addressed by filing a maintenance request
- Working as a supportive member of the Residence Life Team
- Assisting in the administration of surveys, evaluations, and feedback as directed by the Department
- Attending any other training sessions or workshops as required by the supervisor(s) and the University
- Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Successful candidate may be required to apply and demonstrate approval for NU Work funding to maintain this position
- Strong verbal, written, and visual communication skills
- Excellent level of responsibility, reliability, and punctuality
- Be available for scheduled shifts during the weekends prior to and after Reading Breaks
- Familiarity with standard computer software and, organizational proficiency
- Excellent level of responsibility, reliability, and punctuality
- Good interpersonal communication skills and ease in relating to people from varying educational, cultural, and social backgrounds
- Knowledge of Nipissing University programs, initiatives, and services that promote student academic and personal success
- Must be a student in good standing (maintaining minimum 65% cumulative GPA)
