IWW 2022: Everyday Altars
An online workshop about ordinary objects, feelings, and rituals
In conjunction with International Women’s Week, the Department of Gender Equality and Social Justice at Nipissing University is pleased to present the online workshop “Everyday Altars.” Inspired by queer-feminist scholar Ann Cvetkovich’s concept of the “bibliographic altar,” this event invites participants to create altars through the act of gathering and arranging objects, texts, and ephemera.
After a brief presentation explaining the meaning and potentials of everyday altars, attendees will have time to select and meaningfully assemble objects from around their homes that have informed and inspired their studies, creative directions, and lives. At the end of the session, willing participants will be invited to share and discuss their creations with the group.
This event is co-facilitated by Dr. Julie Hollenbach (NSCAD University) and Dr. Robin Alex McDonald (Nipissing University). It features an introductory video by Dr. Ann Cvetkovich (Carleton University), and an artist presentation by Justice Walz.
This event is free and open to everyone. It will not be recorded. Closed captioning / live transcription will be enabled.
