ELL supports are designed for students whose first or primary language is not English. Students can utilize the in-person or virtual drop-in, or book a 45-min. appointment with the Student Learning Coordinator, Writing and Academic Skills for support with:

- English language writing skills
- English language listening skills
- English language grammar skills
Access Supports
Quick Connects and Virtual Drop-In provide fast, accessible support during shared drop-in hours, Monday–Thursday from 10:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. (Wednesdays run from 10:30 a.m.–11:30 a.m.). These sessions take place in open, collaborative spaces, where students are encouraged to work together, ask questions, and share ideas with guidance from academic support staff. Because these short sessions are not private, students who need one-on-one or confidential support should book a 45-minute appointment.
Quick Connect Appointments and Virtual Drop-In Supports
15-min. appointments can be booked for support with math, science, and mature and transfer student supports. Appointments are open for booking 24-hours in advance. Connect with us.
Virtual drop-in support for writing and academic skills is available for all students seeking a short support service. Drop in to ask questions, stay on track, and study alongside others. Connect with us.
45-Min. Appointment
Book a 45-minute appointment for one-on-one support with: math, science, writing, research, study skills, English Language Learning, career services, mature and transfer student support, the Record of Student Development, and more. Appointments can be held in-person in B210 or virtually via Microsoft Teams. Use this time to ask questions, get feedback, develop strategies, or build confidence in your skills.

Orientation
Welcome Lakers
Beginning university is a shared journey, and our orientation programs are designed to walk alongside you through every season. We offer multiple pathways of belonging that grow with you and honour where you’re coming from, while supporting where you’re going.
Across New Student Orientation (NSO), OWLS Week, and Lakers Winter Orientation, you’ll find opportunities to orient yourself, explore supports, and deepen your connections within the Lakers community. Together, these programs create a connected, supportive experience that helps you find your place, strengthen relationships, and continue learning throughout your transition into university life.

New Student Orientation 2025 - Thank you!
New Student Orientation (NSO) 2025 was a great success. Thank you to all the students and supporters who joined us! We loved welcoming you to Nipissing University!
New Student Orientation (NSO) is a hybrid program with online learning modules and on campus programming that highlight various resources for our new students and their supporters. In the coming weeks, attendees will receive a feedback survey - we would love to hear from you too as your input will help make NSO even better for future students.

Online Learning Modules
Your Online Learning Modules are now available. These modules are a crucial part of your New Student Orientation as they are designed to help you learn the process of course registration, navigate your student accounts, fee payment and introduce you to the student supports and services offered throughout your academic journey. These modules can be completed at your own pace, and you have access to them throughout the year.
You can access the modules by login into https://my.nipissingu.ca/ with your Nipissing University student credentials, click on Orientation Modules and find the module that applies to your program. You will be prompted to enroll in the Orientation module that you have selected - "click submit". You should see a notification indicating that you've successfully enrolled in the organization. Once you do, Click the "OK" in the bottom right and begin your module.
When you need to reference this orientation module again in the future, you can find it by clicking on the Organizations tab on the left-hand navigation pane immediately upon logging into Blackboard.

There are different online learning modules offered to incoming students:
- General New Student Orientation - for incoming students in any program.
- RPN to BScN Blended New Student Orientation - for incoming students entering the Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) to BScN Blended Delivery program.
- Distance & College Partnership Program (CPP) Bachelor of Commerce New Student Orientation - for incoming students entering the Bachelor of Commerce, Distance Learning program and the Bachelor of Commerce, College Partnership Program.
- International New Student Orientation - for incoming international and exchange students in any program.

Racers ready and set to go for this second annual event
ArticleRunners of all ages and abilities are invited to lace up for the second annual Look Out Trail Race, set to take place on Saturday, June 14, here on Nipissing University’s campus trails. Scholarships, Bursaries & AwardsAward Value$700.00Administered by the Canadian Federation of University Women and is funded by the Loukidelis family in memory of Mrs. Loukidelis, a charter member of CFUW North Bay. It is awarded to the female student graduating with the highest overall average from one of North Bay's five secondary schools who will be attending Nipissing University who also demonstrates financial need and is a resident of Ontario as defined by OSAP. -

Scholarships, Bursaries & AwardsAward Value$525.00Presented to a full-time student, entering the Faculty of Arts and Science or the Faculty of Applied and Professional Studies, with a minimum "B" average (70%) on his/her best six final 4U, 4M grades, who is the child or grandchild of a Nipissing graduate. The recipient must have demonstrated participation and leadership in extra-curricular activities such as volunteer service, achievement in athletics or the arts, or other significant endeavours. The recipient must also demonstrate financial need and be a resident of Ontario as defined by OSAP. ArticlePolish up that tailgate and get ready for some fun! Nipissing University is hosting the second annual Tailgate Party and Lakers Hockey Game on October 23, from 4 - 6:30 p.m. in front of Memorial Gardens, right before the Lakers face off against the Ottawa Gee Gees at 7 p.m.
