Annual Anne Clendinning Memorial Lecture 2025
The Department of History is pleased to welcome award-winning comic book artist, Ken Steacy, to deliver the 12th Annual Clendinning Memorial lecture: "Edutainment: Visual Storytelling in Service of Education, Instruction, and Advocacy."
Visual storytelling is a language comprised of words and pictures, a communication form that is increasingly being embraced by educational institutions, government, industry, and commerce, in the form of graphic facilitation, instructional pamphlets, comics, and graphic novels.
Edutainment delivers educational content in an entertaining form, in service of instruction, education, and advocacy. It does so by capitalizing on visual storytelling's inherent ability to engage its audience, thereby increasing comprehension and retention.
Ken Steacy’s career as a professional visual storyteller spans over five decades. In recent years he has focused on Edutainment, working with the BC FoodSafe program, advocacy groups for the disabled, and First Nations organizations. Join him for a lively and instructive overview of his approach to this exciting medium.
