You and your supporter(s) (if applicable) will be welcomed by the President of the University, Mike Degagé; the President of the Nipissing University Student Union (NUSU), Hannah Mackie; and will learn about what you can expect from the day. This is the first mandatory session that will kick off our scheduled NSO day!

NSO Parking

NSO parking will be in Lot #1 (the parking lot map can be found here). There will be parking signs directing you to Lot #1 all the way from the bottom of College Dr., and there will be NSO volunteers pointing you to the appropriate lot and the front of the school once you're on campus, so please don't fret about getting lost!

Children's Activities

Free, optional Children's Activities will be held throughout the entire NSO day for any children under the age of 12 to ensure all of the little ones in your life have a great time while you're getting all the information you need at our information sessions! As well, for children who may prefer to stick with you and/or your supporter(s), we will have Activity-to-Go Bags available.

More information about our Children's Activities can be found in the "Children's Activities" tab at the bottom of this page.

If you will be bringing any children with you to NSO but did not indicate it on your original NSO registration form, please email us at nso@nipissingu.ca so we know how many children to expect.

French Placement Test

Students who wish to enroll in a French course are required to first take the French Placement Test to determine which course is the appropriate level to be placed in.

The Nipissing University French Placement Assessment will take place the evening prior to your NSO day, from 5:30pm -7:00pm. Please arrive shortly before the test start time to the Nipissing Front Foyer where there will be an Orientation Assistant to help direct you to the French Placement Test room.

If you are unable to attend your French Placement Test, alternative test dates will be held during the first week of classes, though please remember that you will not be able to register in your French course until you have taken the test.

Overnight Accommodations

We would like to welcome you and your supporters to stay with us during your visit. Not only is it convenient, but it's also a wonderful opportunity to experience our residence accommodations first-hand! You can inquire or book your overnight accommodations by calling 705-474-3450 ext. 4804 or by emailing stay@nipissingu.ca.

The night prior to each NSO day, there will be activities for students and supporters hosted by the Residence Life team in the Residence Complex. The activities will be a great opportunity to meet future classmates, play some games, and enjoy some snacks! Supporters will have a chance to learn more about Residence Life through a Supporter Forum to address frequently asked questions.

Student Accessibility Services (SAS)

If you received special education support through an Individual Education Plan (IEP) during high school and/or if you are a student with a disability, Student Accessibility Services (SAS) can provide you with academic accommodation and support throughout your studies at Nipissing University. We encourage students with an IEP/disability to contact SAS by calling (705) 474-3450 ext. 4362 or by emailing sas@nipissingu.ca.

SAS also offers the Accessibility Transition Program (ATP) for students registered with SAS in order to orient familiarize students to the various services and supports on campus, and to help them prepare academically for university learning. If you are interested in attending, contact SAS (contact information above) to inquire.
