RATE OF PAY:                           $17.20 per hour + Vacation as determined by HR policy

JOB DESCRIPTION:
As an Indigenous Wiidooktaadwin Student Mentor, you will play a key role in fostering a welcoming, culturally grounded, and academically supportive environment for Indigenous students at Nipissing University. Through the Peer2Peer Mentorship Program, mentors will build community, promote cultural identity, and support student success—primarily through on-campus engagement in the Enji giigdoyang Student Lounge. Mentors will also contribute to the Wiidooktaadwin (“Helping One Another”) Mentorship Program, supporting local Indigenous high school students through occasional outreach and collaborative programming.

DUTIES INCLUDE:

This position will assist with the following duties:

  • Lead and facilitate on-campus Peer2Peer programming, including drop-in sessions, cultural activities, and skill-building workshops.
  • Host and support events in the Enji giigdoyang Student Lounge, creating a welcoming and inclusive space for Indigenous students.
  • Support planning and the delivery of orientation activities, social gatherings, and academic support sessions.
  • Collaborate with on campus guests and community partners to offer culturally relevant learning experiences.
  • Serve as a positive role model, fostering respectful and supportive relationships with mentees.
  • Support Wiidooktaadwin outreach initiatives in partnership with local schools and organizations.
  • Participate in mentor training.
  • Help develop and maintain culturally safe, inclusive spaces that reflect Indigenous values and perspectives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated & lived experience working with Indigenous peoples and a strong understanding of Indigenous cultures, traditions, and community values.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to provide guidance and insight into university life, including academic and personal success strategies.
  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at Nipissing University and in good academic standing.
