POSITION TITLE: Residence Programming & Outreach Assistant

HOURS OF WORK: 15 hours per week
RATE OF PAY: $17.60/hour plus Vacation Pay as determined by HR Policy
JOB DESCRIPTION: The Residence Programming & Outreach Assistant is responsible for supporting the education and engagement of student peers about resources, services, supports, and opportunities available through Residence Life & Off Campus Living. Working collaboratively with professional staff and student leaders, the Assistant contributes to the planning, promotion, and delivery of events, resources, and services that enhance the student experience both on and off campus.
Each Assistant will have a focus area—either Admissions & Marketing or Off-Campus Living & Community Outreach—and will also contribute to department-wide programming and engagement initiatives.
DUTIES INCLUDE:
This position will assist with the following duties:
- Support the planning, promotion, and facilitation of educational, health & safety, and community-building programs in residence.
- Assist in developing and sharing educational resources and communications to inform students about supports, services, and engagement opportunities.
- Respond to inquiries from students, families, and/or landlords through email, phone, social media, and in person.
- Research and recommend best practices for student engagement, communication strategies, and program development.
- Contribute to the creation of assessments and reports on programs and services.
- Provide administrative support to departmental initiatives in assigned focus area:
- For Admissions & Marketing: Develop and maintain promotional and informational materials, assisting in the coordination of tours and open houses, and supporting residence admissions communications.
- For Off-Campus Living & Outreach: Maintain and promote the off-campus housing listing, build neighbourhood-based student communities, promote safety and supports for off-campus students.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must apply and be approved for the NUWORK Program
- Familiarity with standard computer software and social media platforms
- Excellent level of responsibility, reliability, and punctuality.
- Knowledge of Nipissing University programs, initiatives, and services that promote student academic and personal success.
- Strong verbal, written, and visual communication skills
- Excellent level of organizational proficiency, initiative, and creativity
- Good interpersonal communication skills and ease in relating to people from varying educational, cultural, and social backgrounds.
- Must be a student in good standing (maintaining minimum 65% cumulative GPA)
- First-hand experience and knowledge of off-campus student issues an asset
