COVID-19 Illness Policy

On Campus COVID-19 Illness Procedure – Revised May 2022

Employees working on campus who develop only one of the following symptoms: sore throat or difficulty swallowing, runny or stuffy nose, headache, extreme tiredness, muscle aches or joint pain, nausea, vomiting, least 24 hours or 48 hours if they have gastrointestinal symptoms (nausea, vomiting and diarrhea).

Should the employee develop any symptoms while they are on campus, the supervisor should advise the employee to: 

  • Immediately return home
  • Complete the Ministry of Health’s Self Assessment and follow the recommendations based on their COVID-19 self-assessment results.

Employees who are fully vaccinated are required to self isolate for a minimum of five (5) days following the onset of a fever, cough, shortness of breath or two (2) or more of the symptoms listed above. Employees should remain in self isolation until their symptoms are improving for at least 24 hours or 48 hours if gastrointestinal symptoms.

Employees who are not fully vaccinated or who have a documented immunocompromising condition are required to self isolate for a minimum of ten (10) days following the onset of symptoms. Employees should remain in self isolation until their symptoms are improving for at least 24 hours or 48 hours if gastrointestinal symptoms.

Close Contact Management

Employees who are fully vaccinated and have received their booster dose (Total 3 Doses) who have been identified as having been exposed to an individual (Regardless of where they reside) who is COVID-19 positive must self monitor for symptoms for ten (10) days. Should symptoms arise, they should then follow the instructions listed above and refrain from being on campus.

Employees who are fully vaccinated (Total 2 Doses) who have been identified as having been exposed to an individual (not residing in their dwelling) who is COVID-19 positive must self monitor for symptoms for ten (10) days. Should symptoms arise, they should then follow the instructions listed above and refrain from being on campus.

Employees who are fully vaccinated (Total 2 Doses) who have been identified as having been exposed to an individual (residing in their dwelling) who is COVID-19 positive must self isolate for a minimum of five (5) days and refrain from being on campus.

Return to Campus After Self Isolation

Employees who are required to self isolate due to any COVID-19 related matter are required to have two (2) negative Rapid Antigen Tests prior to resuming regular duties on campus. The Rapid Antigen Tests will be provided by the University at no cost to the employee.

Self Isolation Stipulations:

  • Is not required for employees who have previously tested positive for COVID-19 (via PCR test of Rapid Antigen Test) in the last 90 days as long as they are not symptomatic
  • Is required if they have a confirmed COVID-19 case or have been tested and are awaiting results;
  • Is required if they have been directed to self-isolate by public health or health professional

Individuals who are unable to work due to a positive COVID-19 test (PCR or Rapid Antigen), or COVID-19 symptoms will be required to utilize sick leave credits if available. Employees without sick leave credits will be required to use vacation time or leave without pay.
