COVID-19 Illness Procedure

Should an employee be at work and start to feel ill or develop any of the COVID-19 symptoms listed on the Ministry of Health’s website, the supervisor should advise the employee:

  • To immediately return home and self isolate. Complete the Ministry of Health’s Self Assessment and follow the recommendations based on your COVID-19 self-assessment results
  • Contact the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit COVID-19 hotline at 1-800-563-2808 if they have any general COVID-19 questions
  • Contact the NBRHC Assessment Centre (705-474-8600 ext. 4110) to make an appointment to be tested for COVID-19
  • The employee should continue to self-isolate (not return to work) for 14 days from the onset of their symptoms or until COVID-19 infection has been ruled out with a negative test result

If the employee has been assessed by NBRHC assessment centre, the employee must:

  • Inform their supervisor that they have been tested
  • Remain in self-isolation while awaiting the test results

NOTE: Employees who are well but who have a sick family member at home who has been tested for COVID-19 should notify their supervisor and self monitor. Self-monitoring includes completing the COVID-19 daily screening tool and watching for any symptoms of COVID-19. These employees can continue working on campus.

If the test results are positive:

  • The employee must follow the directions provided by the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit
  • The employee must provide a letter from the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit advising that they have been cleared to return to work
  • The medical documentation must be provided to their supervisor and to Carrie Duchesne, HR Generalist Benefits, Pension and Attendance

If the test results are negative:

  • The employee must provide documentation of their test results by way of screenshot from the assessment centers online portal to their supervisor and to Michelle Banks, HR Generalist Health, Safety and Wellness
  • The employee must also be symptom free for 24 hours before resuming regular work duties

Should you have any questions please contact Michelle Banks, HR Generalist Health, Safety and Wellness via email at michellb@nipissingu.ca.
