Indigenous Teacher Education Program (ITEP)

This two-year program​ is comprised of three components: 

a) summer sessions at Nipissing University in North Bay, Ontario

b) e-Learning delivered courses to teacher candidates in community, and

c) in-school internships under the supervision of a certified teacher, in a classroom setting.

The following is the procedure for applying:

Part 1 Applicants:

Send the following to the Office of the Registrar:

  • Completed application form​
  • Proof of Aboriginal ancestry​
  • Official transcripts indicating one of the following completed certifications from an accredited college or university:
    • Early Childhood Education (ECE);
    • Native Classroom Assistant Diploma program (NCADP);
    • Native Special Education Assistant Diploma Program (NSEADP);
    • Native Language Teaching Certificate (NLTC);
    • An undergraduate degree from an accredited university.
  • One-page, typed statement that outlines the reasons for applying to the Indigenous Teacher Education Program.
  • Valid Criminal Reference Check including a Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC). Your PVSC must have an issue date of June 1, 2019 or later. A PVSC dated prior to June 1, 2019 will not be accepted.​

Part 2 Returning Students:

Students returning to Part 2 must:

Send the following to the Office of the Registrar:

  • Completed applicati​​​on​ form​​
  • Valid Criminal Reference Check including a Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC). Your PVSC must have an issue date of June 1, 2019 or later. A PVSC dated prior to June 1, 2019 will not be accepted.​

Residence

Accommodations are available in our Chancellors House complex for either individual or multiple guests/families. Residence applications will be available soon.
