BPHE Students Benefitting from Hands-on Experience

Approximately 100 Bachelor of Physical and Health Education (BPHE) students are benefitting from hands-on work experience through the Community Leadership Placement program. Over 35 internal and external community partners support the students by providing them with a minimum of 50 hours of mentorship and work involvement in areas that support students’ academic and professional goals.

These experiential learning opportunities take place in a variety of settings and focus on a range of topic areas including Allied Health/Clinical, Physical and Health Education, Health Promotion, Sports Marketing/Event Management, Coaching/Training, and Fitness/Wellness. Through the program, students work towards achieving both personal and professional competencies and walk away with more confidence, understanding and support in their areas of interest.

“The Community Leadership Placement Program has provided me with relevant hands-on work experience in physiotherapy clinics, occupational therapy settings and other rehabilitation sites, says Allyn Massan, fourth year Physical and Health Education student. “Experiential learning continues to play a key role for meeting new people and developing professional skills.  The process of learning outside the classroom has enriched my student involvement and has helped direct my future academic and career goals.”
