INDIGENOUS YOUTH LIFE PROMOTION PROGRAM WORKER

This is a vacant position.

Status: Full time, permanent
Accountability: Accountable to the Executive Director
Salary Range: $45,773 - $61,916 annually

Summary: The Indigenous Youth Life Promotion Program is founded on principles of self-determination and cultural reclamation. The Indigenous Youth Life Promotion program goal is to support the wholistic development and provide a continuum of care services for youth at-risk, as well as addressing their physical, mental, emotional,
spiritual health and well-being. The Indigenous Youth Life Promotion Program Worker will ensure the effective delivery of program objectives such that the needs of youth (ages 13-24) are met in a timely and culturally sensitive manner.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in Indigenous Studies, Social Work, Child and Youth work or a combination of equivalent and relevant education
  • Minimum of three (3) years demonstrated and related work experience with children and youth
  • Strong knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture, history and the impacts of colonization with a particular emphasis on child, family, and community wellbeing
  • Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous youth engagement and community outreach tools
  • Knowledge of traditional teachings, particularly in the areas of water and land-based activities, traditional medicines, and language reclamation and food education.
  • Ability to work professionally and collaboratively with child welfare agencies in Ontario.
  • Strong understanding of the Child and Family Services Act and the Ontario's Children 's Aid Society, with particular emphasis of impact on Indigenous families.
  • Vulnerable Sector Records Check is required.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, reporting databases, and related technology
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work as a team member and independently
  • Maintains personal and professional integrity, and handles confidential information with discretion
  • Valid driver's license with clean abstract, appropriate insurance, and access to reliable transportation
  • Ability to work flexible hours
