A Minute for Our Relatives
Honouring Indigenous Victims of Gender-Based Violence
The students of INDG 3106 Indigenous Health & Wellness are organizing a day of events as part of the 16 Days of Activism on Gender-Based Violence Canada, in partnership with and support from the Office of Indigenous Initiatives (OII) and Student Development and Services (SDS) and Amelia Rising.
A Minute for Our Relatives: Honouring Indigenous Victims of Gender-Based Violence will take place from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. at the NUSU building, main foyer. The students will share round dancing, information, and visual art to raise awareness about gender-based violence and Indigenous peoples. As part of this event, the class is also soliciting donations of feminine products, personal hygiene products and more. All donations are going to Ojibway Women's Lodge and True Self. Donation drop boxes are located in OII and the main foyer of the NUSU building.
From 6:00 - 9:00 p.m., guest speaker Vanessa Brousseau will share some of her story as an Inuk/Ojibway woman, the impact of her sister's disappearance, and how that motivated her to become an activist.
This part of the event will be available in hybrid format. Join us in person at the NU Theatre, Rm F213. Or register to join us by Zoom
