North Bay Police Service is currently accepting applications for the position of Special Constables. Special Constables provide courthouse security, prisoner escorts and serve summonses and subpoenas. This part-time position requires the candidate to be available to work shifts and for call-ins any time. There is no minimum guarantee in terms of hours as per the collective agreement. Compensation is $35.05 per hour + 10% in lieu of benefits and 5.4% vacation pay.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Canadian Citizen or permanent resident of Canada
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Physically and mentally able to perform the duties of the position, having regard to his or her own safety, and the safety of the public
  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (O.S.S.D) or its equivalent (i.e. grade 12 from any province of Canada).  Applicants educated outside Canada should refer to the Government of Canada - Education Assessment Resources
  • Provide proof of valid First Aid and CPR (Level "C")
  • Valid G driver’s license with full driving privileges
  • OACP Medical Examination package (hearing assessment) Self Assess! (oacpcertificate.ca)
    • Please note an OACP Certificate is not required
  • Exception: A retired Police Officer within five years of retirement in good standing, as determined by the Chief of Police.

Candidates will be evaluated over several stages, which will include a pre-background questionnaire, panel interview, personality assessment, physical assessment (Shuttle Run - Level 7), and background investigation.
