Scholarships, Bursaries and Awards: in-course

Nipissing University assumes liability for the payment of scholarships, bursaries and other awards only to the extent that expected gifts from donors or returns from particular investments of endowed funds are realized. The University reserves the right to make whatever changes circumstances may require, including the amendment of monetary value, selection criteria and the cancellation of particular awards. Information on the current status of any of these may be obtained by contacting the Student Awards and Financial Aid Office or by visiting the Nipissing University website at www.nipissingu.ca/studentfinancialservices. 

Students who feel that their individual circumstances are not being fairly considered when determining eligibility for the aforementioned scholarships, bursaries and awards have the right to submit a written appeal explaining their circumstances to the Undergraduate Services and Awards Committee.​

Provided to support a student's education; awarded on the basis of academic achievement.

Non-repayable financial aid given to students, on the basis of financial need, to assist with the cost of education.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I apply for scholarships, bursaries, and awards?

You can apply for all available scholarships, bursaries, and awards through a single application form, which takes about 30 to 60 minutes to complete.

Can I apply for funding every year?

Yes, you can reapply each year to increase your chances of receiving financial support.

What are the eligibility criteria?

Each scholarship, bursary, and award has different criteria, which may include academic performance, financial need, extracurricular involvement, leadership, or volunteer work.

Do I have to pay back the money I receive?

No, the funds you receive through scholarships, bursaries, and awards do not need to be repaid.

When is the deadline to apply?

The application period is from 1 October till 1 November, each year.

Can I apply if I’ve already received funding in the past?

Yes, previous recipients are encouraged to reapply each year.

What if I don’t meet all the criteria listed for an award?

You may still qualify for some scholarships, bursaries, or awards, as different opportunities have different criteria. Apply anyway to see what you might be eligible for.

    Presented to the student with the highest admittance average who was a graduate of Nipissing University and who is enrolled in the Junior/Intermediate or Intermediate/Senior Division of the full-time Bachelor of Education program with Math or Science as a teachable. The recipient must demonstrate financial need and be a resident of Ontario as defined by OSAP.

    $1,025.00

    Presented to a full-time Nipissing University student enrolled in the Bachelor of Education program who has an undergraduate degree in science, mathematics or engineering. Preference is given to students from northern Ontario and to students who were and continue to be involved in university athletics. The recipient must demonstrate financial need and be a resident of Ontario as defined by OSAP.

    Presented to a full-time student on the basis of academic merit (minimum 70%) deemed most deserving by the department of Computer Science and Mathematics. The recipient must also demonstrate financial need and be a resident of Ontario as defined by OSAP.

    Presented annually at convocation to a deserving graduating student majoring in Mathematics who has obtained a high average in his/her major. The recipient must demonstrate financial need and be a resident of Ontario as defined by OSAP.

    Presented to a graduating student in the Primary/Junior Division of the Schulich School of Education who excelled in the Mathematics Education course and who was graded highly successful in his/her practice teaching placements. The recipient must demonstrate financial need and be a resident of Ontario as defined by OSAP. Students are nominated by the Faculty.

    Established by a group of retired educators in Sudbury and surrounding area in memory of Susan Stuart, a professor at Nipissing University who passed away in January, 2019. As a professor of mathematics in the Schulich School of Education, Susan's talents extended far beyond the classroom. She developed and authored many teacher resources and she worked with Nipissing to provide training for educators in other countries. She was very passionate about giving back and her volunteerism speaks volumes. OAME, Sudbury Teachers' Lions and CFUW Sudbury benefited greatly from her hours of work to benefit others. The award is presented to a student enrolled in the Bachelor of Education program who has displayed a positive attitude to teaching; a willingness to assist fellow classmates; and exemplary volunteer, leadership and citizenship qualities. The recipient is nominated by the Schulich School of Education and must demonstrate financial need and be a resident of Ontario as defined by OSAP.
