Established to honour Alan (1925-1994), the first Dean of the Faculty of Education, and his wife Joyce (1925-2009), an ardent supporter of the local arts community. Two scholarships are presented to Indigenous students graduating from either the Bachelor of Education program, the Indigenous Teacher Education Program (ITEP), the Indigenous Classroom Assistant Diploma Program (ICADP), or the Teacher of Indigenous Language as a Second Language (TILSL). Recipients must intend to go on to teach in an Indigenous community, be in strong academic standing, and demonstrate financial need.

Presented to a Nipissing student who self-identifies as Indigenous and is graduating from an undergraduate degree program. The recipient must intend on pursuing a post-graduate degree, including graduate studies programs at the Masters level, in the area of education, law, medicine or social work. The recipient must demonstrate financial need. Selected recipient is required to submit proof of acceptance to a post-graduate degree program outlined in the criteria. Application required.

Presented to a student in the summer session of the first year of one of the three Nipissing University Summer Indigenous Programs: Teacher of Anishnaabemwin as a Second Language program, the Native Classroom Assistant Development Program, or the Indigenous Teacher Certification Program. The recipient must be a resident of Ontario and demonstrate financial need.

Awarded to an Indigenous student enrolled full-time at Nipissing University in the Arts, Commerce, Science, Social Work or Business Administration. The recipient must demonstrate financial need and cannot be sponsored by the Department of Indigenous and Northern Affairs.

Presented to a student who self-identifies as Indigenous and requires tech hardware such as a laptop or tablet to aid them in their studies. The student must also demonstrate financial need. Preference will be given to a student in a graduate studies program or a student in their 3rd or 4th year in an undergraduate program.

Established to support Nipissing Indigenous students who wish to revitalize their cultural practices. Funding can be used to support an Elder honourarium, travel costs, supplies, food, or other expenses, as defined by the students. Applications are reviewed by the Office of Indigenous Initiatives and must include an engagement plan and anticipated expenses. Recipients are selected by the Office of Indigenous Initiatives. Presented to three Indigenous students from the Nipissing First Nation with the highest entrance average. Recipients must be entering their first year of study in an undergraduate degree program, or the Indigenous Foundations Program, at Nipissing University. College transfer students with less than 18 credits will also be considered.

Established by a generous gift from the Knowledge First Foundation. This is awarded to an Indigenous student enrolled in the professional years of Social Work who has a minimum overall average of 75%.

Awarded to an undergraduate or graduate student who is pursuing research in partnership with an Indigenous community located within the Treaty No. 9 region. Recipients must demonstrate financial need. The final decision is made by the Undergraduate Services and Awards Committee.
Scholarships, Bursaries and Awards: in-course
(Based only on academics)
In-course scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic merit to full-time undergraduate students who have completed at least one full year of study at Nipissing University. Generally, an application is not required. Students must be registered to receive a scholarship, which is generally paid out in January. Weighted grades are used to determine eligibility for a scholarship; please check this section to confirm eligibility requirements for specific programs.

Provided to students on the basis of financial need or some combination of extra-curricular involvement, academics, demonstrated leadership ability, volunteerism or other similar criterion plus financial need. To demonstrate financial need, students must self-identify by applying for any/all of the following: OSAP (or other government student loan program), the Web Bursary Program, or the Work Study program.
Separate applications are not generally required for most of our bursaries and awards; if you feel you will require some additional financial assistance during the fall and winter session simply complete the online Web Bursary application which can be found on Web Advisor the month of October (it is due November 1). As part of our commitment to the Student Access Guarantee, bursary assistance may be provided, if warranted, to ensure that tuition and book costs are met.
