Big Heads on display

There is no shortage of big heads on the third floor of F-wing thanks to Fine Arts students, who have installed their Big Head drawing project in the hallway and in the president’s office.

The eight drawings, by FAVA 2506 Figure Study students, will be on exhibit until the end of reading week, February 23. You can view the pieces in the hallway anytime, and can arrange to see the works in the president's office, by contacting Maggie Daniel maggied@nipissingu.ca.

For the Big Head assignment, students were asked to choose a full-page head from a fashion magazine. They 'gridded' the reproduction into one inch squares and then drew an identical but much larger grid on paper approximately 36 x 48 inches. The challenge was to transfer the small image onto the larger paper 'by eye' using pencil, charcoal and pastel.  The assignment was marked according to how technically accurate they were with gridding up, and how artistically creative they were with use of the mediums.

President Mike DeGagné requested the student art be exhibited in his office to increase awareness of the vibrant and exciting Fine Arts program Nipissing University offers.

The Fine Arts department plans to present another 'gridding' project after reading week. The department also plans to display prints from Laura Peturson's printmaking students, and examples of photos, drawings, paintings, and sculpture from other courses taught by Fine Arts faculty.
