Meet Student Leader Mackenzie Senior

Nipissing University is pleased to have recognized Mackenzie Senior from North Bay with the Dave Marshall Leadership Award, one of it's most prestigious accolades.

Annually, 25 full-time students are recognized with a Dave Marshall Leadership Award. These students have made an outstanding extracurricular contribution to their academic program, to the campus, or to the greater community. They have demonstrated leadership, initiative, commitment, and an ability to motivate and influence others toward the betterment of Nipissing University.

This award is a prestigious, non-monetary award in recognition of the dedication and leadership Dr. Dave Marshall demonstrated during his 18 years of consecutive service as the Dean of Education and President and Vice Chancellor of Nipissing University. Dr. Marshall’s tenure at Nipissing University is a reflection of his commitment to higher education, vision for the future, and leadership in external community service. These were all characteristics reflective of Dr. Marshall’s position at Nipissing University and are qualities embodied in the students chosen for this award.

Mackenzie is working towards a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Mackenzie has demonstrated leadership in academics through his role as a Research Assistant and involvement with a variety of research projects within the Department of Nursing. Mackenzie took the initiative to spearhead and submit his own research project through the ROMEO system that will attempt to understand best practices for clinical placements using both qualitative and quantitative methodologies.

Mackenzie is a student who has achieved academic success while pursuing extracurricular activities. He aims to learn about the nursing culture and helps to guide other students in their pursuit by maintaining executive positions with the Nipissing University Nursing Society as well as the RNAO Nursing Students of Ontario interest group. He regularly seeks out professional development opportunities and brings that learning back to the classroom to share with his peers. 

Mackenzie dedicates his time to volunteering on a regular basis at both the North Bay Regional Health Center and The Gathering Place in the kitchen and the community garden throughout the summer. Mackenzie also works as a Pharmacy Assistant where he applies knowledge from his degree program while gaining practical experience.

Mackenzie is eager, professional, bright and motivated. In the future, he intends to further his education in the healthcare field and hopes to use his leadership to educate the next generation of healthcare professionals.
