Meet Student Leader Caleb Mady

Caleb Mady, Dave Marshall Leadership Award Recipient

Nipissing University is pleased to have recognized Caleb Mady from Corbeil with the Dave Marshall Leadership Award, one of it's most prestigious accolades.

Annually, 25 full-time students are recognized with a Dave Marshall Leadership Award. These students have made an outstanding extracurricular contribution to their academic program, to the campus, or to the greater community. They have demonstrated leadership, initiative, commitment, and an ability to motivate and influence others toward the betterment of Nipissing University.

This award is a prestigious, non-monetary award in recognition of the dedication and leadership Dr. Dave Marshall demonstrated during his 18 years of consecutive service as the Dean of Education and President and Vice Chancellor of Nipissing University. Dr. Marshall’s tenure at Nipissing University is a reflection of his commitment to higher education, vision for the future, and leadership in external community service. These were all characteristics reflective of Dr. Marshall’s position at Nipissing University and are qualities embodied in the students chosen for this award.

Caleb is working towards a Master of Science in Kinesiology.

Caleb has demonstrated his leadership in academics through a variety of research projects within the Department of Physical and Health Education. He has been a Research Assistant in both the Psychology of Physical Activity and Health Promotion Lab, and the Exercise Physiology Lab. In the former, Caleb contributed to faculty research by assisting in the analysis of data from questionnaires, focus groups, and movement analyses. In the latter, Caleb played a primary role in the development of a research instrument designed to measure muscle force production during isometric contractions. Currently, he is conducting an ambitious research study examining the influence of muscle oxygenation on low load resistance training using a variety of complex research techniques.

Caleb is also the Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Women’s Varsity Basketball Team. His commitment to the team is extensive; spending numerous hours per week, during both competitive and off-season, designing training programs, conducting movement assessments and leading educational workouts. Caleb applies his knowledge of exercise physiology while helping athletes on the team achieve their fitness & performance goals.

Caleb plans to become a professional Strength and Conditioning Coach within the realm of professional sports in Canada. He also intends to continue his ongoing training to one day compete in Olympic Weightlifting provincially and nationally.
