Lakers Hockey Military Appreciation Night – January 4 & 18, 2020

For the past ten years, the Nipissing Lakers men’s hockey team has held a military appreciation game on the occasion of their winter face-off against the Royal Military College Paladins.  January 4, 2020, will mark the eleventh installment of the game, a tradition started by our Chancellor, Dr. Paul Cook, along with Lakers Hockey coach, Mike McParland, and the former Honorary Colonel of 22 Wing’s 51 Squadron.

Over the past decade, the annual military appreciation games have raised over $30,000 for the North Bay Military Family Resource Centre (MFRC), a local charity that provides programs and services to support military and veteran families in our area. The jerseys are uniquely designed each year with input from the players, and then worn with pride and auctioned off during the game.

This year, the Lakers women’s hockey team will be joining in this tradition by hosting their own military appreciation game on January 18, 2020 at 7:30 versus Waterloo. The women will be wearing a unique winter-combat inspired jersey that will surely be in high demand at the silent auction table.

The ongoing success of this initiative is a tribute to the North Bay community whose support of our military is evident by their incredible generosity at this fundraiser. It has truly helped the MFRC make a difference in the lives of our local military families.  We hope you will join us this year to cheer on our Lakers and support a good cause.  Tickets can be purchased from the Memorial Gardens Box Office.
