Student Centre takes step forward

The gorgeous and eagerly anticipated Student Centre took another big step forward last week, with the tender being awarded to Kenalex Development Ltd., a local neighbourhood developer and commercial contractor.

“The student union, along with the university, have been working diligently on this project for many years, and we are extremely proud to see it coming to fruition,” said Andrew Wood, Nipissing University Student Union (NUSU) vice-president, finance. “This is going to be a great addition to the campus, and will allow the student body to flourish.”

"The new Student Centre is going to have a significant impact on campus life at Nipissing University, providing a central hub where students can gather, learn and grow," said Dr. Mike DeGagné, president and vice-chancellor of Nipissing University. "We look forward to seeing shovels in the ground and watching this much anticipated building take shape."

Construction is expected to begin soon on the 32,000-square-foot building, with completion expected in 2020.

NUSU and Nipissing University will be hosting a groundbreaking ceremony in the upcoming weeks.

Designed by North Bay firm Mitchell Jensen Architects, the multi-use facility for students, faculty and the North Bay community will be situated at the corner of College Drive and Monastery Road.

Kenalex brings over 35 years of experience within North Bay and the surrounding region.
