Provincial award for NU’s first Sexual Violence Prevention and Education Coordinator

Congratulations to Jen Gordon, Nipissing’s first Sexual Violence Prevention and Education Coordinator, on winning a provincial Draw-the-Line Sexual Violence Prevention Award for 2017-2018.

The awards, granted by White Ribbon, recognize the outstanding prevention efforts of members of Ontario’s education sector. Gordon was one of two award recipients from the post-secondary level.

Gordon was recognized for using Draw-the-Line materials in public education campaigns.  Her work included organizing student workshops, training student leaders in bystander intervention and responding to disclosures, and providing direct support to survivors on campus. In the fall of 2017, Gordon hosted Draw-the-Line staff on campus to work with Lakers Varsity Athletes and provide education to students in Residence Life.

White Ribbon is the world's largest movement of men and boys working to end violence against women and girls and to promote gender equity, healthy relationships, and a new vision of masculinity. Starting in 1991, White Ribbon asked men to wear white ribbons as a pledge to never commit, condone or remain silent about violence against women and girls. For more information on White Ribbon visit: www.whiteribbon.ca.
