NU seals lid on 25th Anniversary with time capsule

Nipissing closed the lid on the 25th Anniversary celebrations on February 13, by literally closing and sealing the lid of a new time capsule, scheduled for opening when Nipissing celebrates its 50th Anniversary in 2042.

The contents of the new time capsule were on display for the morning so students, faculty and staff could view them before they were sealed up. 

Nipissing president Dr. Mike DeGagné welcomed the students, faculty and staff who attended the event and reminisced about the many events and activities that were held over the past year to mark the 25th Anniversary.  He also touched on the future of Nipissing.

“Universities are some of the oldest institutions in the world, the University of Bologna is 929 years old; Dalhousie turned 200 and McGill is close to 200 years old. A quarter century is a short period of time in the life of a university, and this institution is no different; a long and successful future lies ahead for Nipissing,” he said.

Following his comments, he and Sydney Lamorea, president of the Nipissing University Student Union, packed the items into the time capsule, sealed the lid and gently placed it in it’s secure location within the wall outside the Vittorio Fedeli Business Centre.  The hole was then sealed with a large plaque.
