Near North Voices to perform at Carnegie Hall

Near North Voices rehearsal

A group of singers from Near North Voices is travelling to New York City this week to participate in a performance of Dan Forrest’s Requiem for the Living under conductor Martha Banghart at the famed Carnegie Hall.
Near North Voices – a hybrid university-community choir based at Nipissing University, performed this work in a version for choir with organ and chamber orchestra in their last season under their director, Dr. Adam Adler. The choir was later invited by American conductor Martha Banghart to join with her choir for a performance of the work with a full professional orchestra at Carnegie Hall. Due to work and school commitments, approximately half of last seasons’ choristers are able to go on the trip. The singers will participate in several days of rehearsals, and will perform the concert with full orchestra under the lights of Carnegie Hall on March 19.

When they return, the singers will be right back into rehearsals for Near North Voices’ concert Sharing Our Choral Art VI on Saturday, April 7, at St. Andrew’s United Church, with special guests The Kanto Vocal Ensemble from Hamilton, ON.
