Laker hoopster earns All-Star selection

The Ontario University Athletics (OUA) women's basketball team has a tint of blue and green this year as Lakers rookie of the year and member of the OUA All-Rookie team, Alexe Galipeau-Wilson, has been named to the team.

The ninth annual OUA All-Star Game takes place Saturday, May 14, at Queen's University at 7:30 p.m. Admission to the event is free.  If you can't make it to the ARC, you can catch all the action live on OUA.tv.

Galipeau-Wilson was one of the Lakers best and most consistent players throughout the season.  She posted 6.4 points per game, averaging 30.2 minutes per outing. On six occasions she put up double digits, with her high of 13 points coming on the road in a key win at Laurentian. Two of those six games came in victories, but maybe more impressive than her scoring was her ability to pull down rebounds, both offensively and defensively. Galipeau-Wilson had five games where she recorded at least 10 rebounds and had 14 in the win at Laurentian, a season-high.  Overall she earned two double-doubles, ranked 18th in total rebounds with 122, 14th in offensive rebounds and was 15th in the entire OUA in rebounds per game, scooping up 7.2 boards.

The graduate of the Ottawa Capital JUEL program and Ottawa native, provided a lot of grit and hard work for the Lakers, who were much improved this past season, finishing with three victories.

Galipeau-Wilson ranked second on the team in minutes per game, was third in points per game, third in free-throw percentage and first in rebounding. She also sat second in assists per game.

The impressive season Galipeau-Wilson put together is a great start to her career and if she continues to grow as a player, along with the program, things will continue to improve and very quickly for the Lakers.

The game itself will be just one of many events for the all-stars over the course of the weekend in Kingston. Prior to tip-off on Saturday evening, the OUA All-Stars will also take part in various community initiatives at the Kingston YMCA to help grow the game of basketball in Ontario.

The ninth annual OUA Women's Basketball All-Star game is taking place thanks to a dedicated group of sponsors and partners including: official sponsor Wilson Sports Equipment of Canada and event partners Queen's Gaels Athletics, Peel Police Services and JUEL of Ontario.
