Nipissing hosting ICE conference

Nipissing University’s Schulich School of Education is hosting the Imagination Creativity Education (ICE) conference November 5 – 6.

The ICE conference is aimed at teachers in the North Bay and surrounding areas, and pre-service teachers enrolled in the Schulich School of Education.  It features workshops led by teaching professionals that demonstrate teaching and learning strategies that enrich and engage creativity and imagination in students.  Dr. David Booth, who holds the Dr. Elizabeth Thorn Research Chair in Literacy at Nipissing, will give the keynote address on Friday, November 5, at 7:15 p.m. in the Nipissing Theatre (F213).

On Saturday, workshops will be running from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. in rooms near A246.

“We need to engage students actively in their education.  Imagination and creativity is the next wave in education,” said Dr. Blaine Hatt, assistant professor in the Schulich School of Education and one of the ICE organizers.  “Critical, creative thinking and imagination are essential to Canada’s future.  They are key components in research and development, design and entrepreneurship, everything that requires creative problem solving. The ICE conference will help educators create learning environments that nurture imagination, foster creativity and inspire and engage students.”
