Front-End Web Developer - Cinematic Website Build

Mediact Inc.

Paid Contract

Remote/North Bay

Project-Based

Portfolio Builder

WHO WE ARE
A studio where film meets technology.
Mediact is a transmedia studio working at the intersection of film, technology, and storytelling. We develop
original content, build cinematic brand campaigns, and create scalable digital experiences. We’re building our new website — and we want it to feel less like a website, and more like a film. We’re looking for a developer who’s excited about that challenge.

THE OPPORTUNITY
Build something you’ll actually want in your portfolio. This isn’t a template job. You’ll be building a high-end, interaction-driven site from scratch — working directly alongside our designer to bring a cinematic vision to life.

WHAT MAKES THIS DIFFERENT
This project involves custom cursor design, film-inspired page transitions, scroll-based storytelling, and rich media integration. The kind of work that stands out in a portfolio — not just another landing page.

Key responsibilities.

  • Responsive website — built from provided designs across desktop, tablet, and mobile
  • Cinematic page transitions — smooth fades and dissolves, not standard navigation
  • Custom interactive cursor — inspired by the Mediact pen-nib logo mark
  • Scroll-based animations — elements that reveal and respond as you move through the page
  • Video & rich media integration — performant loading, high visual impact
  • Hover states and micro-interactions — the details that make a site feel premium

SKILLS WE’RE LOOKING FOR
You don’t need to know everything — but these matter.

Strong foundation in the following:

  • HTML, CSS & JavaScript
  • React or similar framework
  • GSAP or animation libraries
  • Scroll-based animation (e.g. ScrollTrigger)
  • Responsive layout / mobile-first thinking
  • Attention to timing and motion detail

Nice to have (not required):

  • Smooth scroll libraries (e.g. Lenis)
  • Performance optimization for media heavy sites
  • Interest in film, design, or interactive  storytelling
  • Experience with Webflow or headless CMS

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR
A builder who cares about craft.

  • You care about how things feel, not just whether they work
  • You’re curious and willing to experiment
  • You can collaborate closely with a designer and take direction well
  • You want to build experiences, not just websites
  • You’re looking for real project experience to add to your portfolio

PROJECT DETAILS
The basics.

  • Type: Short-term contract / project based. Fulltime
  • Compensation: Paid — $21 an hour
  • Location: Remote or hybrid (North Bay preferred)
  • Start: As soon as the right person is found
  • Team: Small — you’ll work directly with the creative lead
  • Platform: Your recommendation, based on project needs
