Location: Greater Sudbury, Various Libraries

Job Status: Regular part time and limited regular part time positions
Estimated Probable Duration (for limited positions): Seven (7) months
Number of Vacancies: 3 (Recruitment pool)
Union Affiliation: CUPE 4705 Inside Unit 
Hours of Work: up to 48 hours bi-weekly 
Shift Work Required: Yes (days, evenings and weekends)
Range of Pay: $30.49 to $36.07 per hour

Language Requirement: Applicants must have either English-only proficiency or be bilingual in English and French, based on position requirements.

The Opportunity

Make a difference in your community by delivering exceptional customer service for municipal and library services.

We are seeking customer-focused professionals to join our team as a Citizen Service Centre Representative (including Library Services). In this role, you will be the first point of contact for residents to connect them with a wide range of library and municipal programs and services by providing information and processing transactions.

What You'll Do

  • Welcome and assist residents with inquiries related to municipal and library programs, services, and facilities.
  • Provide information and guidance to help customers access municipal services.
  • Process payments for services such as property taxes, parking tickets, transit passes, leisure programs, cemetery plots, animal licenses, and other municipal fees.
  • Create contracts for marriage licenses and hall bookings.
  • Support library operations by circulating materials, shelving collections, and assisting patrons with reader services.
  • Help facilitate library programs, workshops, and community events.
  • Assist patrons with the use of public computers, internet access, and available software applications and digital resources.
  • Respond to customer concerns and service requests in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Maintain accurate records, balance daily revenues, prepare deposits, and process related documentation.
  • Perform administrative and clerical duties, including data entry, filing, inventory management, and statistical reporting.

What You’ll Bring

  • Secondary school diploma with additional post-secondary education or training in a related field such as business, administration, arts, sciences, computers, or library services.
  • One to two and one-half years of related retail, banking or administrative/receptionist customer service, library, or public service experience.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with diverse members of the public.
  • Strong keyboarding and computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office and internet-based applications.
  • Knowledge of municipal services, library operations, customer relationship management systems, or automated library systems is considered an asset.
  • Ability to handle cash transactions accurately and maintain confidential information.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Excellent verbal French language skills and a working knowledge of written French are required for the number of positions needed to serve the public in both languages at all times.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license, an acceptable driving record, and access to personal vehicle insurance coverage.

This job is also being posted as a development opportunity. Should there be no fully qualified candidate for this position, a candidate who can be expected to meet the required qualifications within a reasonable period of time may be considered for this position as a development opportunity.

Development opportunity range of pay: $29.72 to $34.49 per hour. The successful candidate will be paid at the reduced range until the minimum qualifications have been met.
