Congratulations to Dr. Ping Zou, assistant professor in the school of Nursing, and her research team, who designed, implemented, piloted and published the DASHNa-CC study, a culturally adapted anti-hypertensive educational dietary intervention especially for middle-aged and senior Chinese Canadians.

Three major publications have utilized the work:
Journal of Nutrition, Health and Aging. First online December 9, 2016: Dietary Approach to Stop Hypertension with Sodium Reduction for Chinese Canadians (DASHNa-CC): A Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial

Journal of Immigrant and Minority health: Diet and Blood Pressure Control in Chinese Canadians: Cultural Considerations.

American Journal of Chinese Medicine: Traditional Chinese Medicine, Food Therapy, and Hypertension Control: A Narrative Review of Chinese Literature

The DASHNa-CC study gained funding support from the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Registered Nurses’ Foundation of Ontario, CIHR travel grant, and the University of Toronto dissertation award.

Following her success on the DASHNa-CC study, Dr. Zou has been invited to collaborate on Pathways to Prosperity Partnership, a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council immigrant partnership project. She received a Pathways to Prosperity grant to conduct research on the health status of elderly immigrants as well as their contributions to family, community and Canadian society. In December 2016, the study also received a research grant from Sigma Theta Tau International Lambda Pi-at-Large.

Dr. Zou is interested in working with students and professors investigating culture, migration, education and health.
